RE:2026 Sewer Rate – Borough of McKees Rocks
Dear Resident(s) of McKees Rocks:
McKees Rocks Borough Council truly values you as resident of McKees Rocks and we want to reassure you that we continue to strategize and plan for the best interest of our residents. The Borough has reviewed the current sewer fund situation, as well as studied previous years expenses and revenue streams and has deemed it necessary to increase Borough’s sewer rate for 2026.
The reasons for increase are due to the inflation of cost of sewer repair, a mandated stormwater sewer separation project required by ALCOSAN with a total estimated cost of $9,386,434.00, and the increase of service charge to the Borough from ALCOSAN. Please also note the Borough continues to carry a Bond Series balance (debt) of approximately $1.3 million dollars for a major sewer repair project completed circa 2008-2009.
The Borough recognizes the need to communicate this information to you as early as possible in order for you, the resident to plan accordingly. Please understand that the Borough has no other choice at this point of time; We have to increase these charges in order to plan for future expenses outlined above.
Effective January 1, 2026, the Borough’s sewer charge will increase by .90 cents, from $4.92 to $5.82 per thousand gallons. The Borough’s customer service charge remains the same at $1.00 per quarter.
For example, the average customer who uses 10,000 gallons of water per quarter will pay $9.00 more per quarter, increasing their quarterly charge from $49.20 to $58.20. If a resident uses less, for example 5,000 gallons of water per quarter, resident will pay $4.50 more per quarter, increasing their quarterly charge from $24.60 to $29.10.
The Borough also would like to communicate with you that ALCOSAN has established a rate increase for 2026, increasing ALCOSAN’s wastewater treatment charge by .84 cents, from $11.92 to $12.76 per thousand gallons and the ALCOSAN customer service charge by $1.75 per bill, from $25.05 to $26.80. Please understand that these charges are out of the Borough’s control.
Using the same example(s) above, the customer who uses 10,000 gallons of water will pay $10.15 more per quarter, increasing their quarterly charge from $144.25 to $154.40. If a resident uses less, for example 5,000 gallons of water per quarter, resident will pay $5.95 more per quarter, increasing their quarterly charge from $84.65 to $90.60.
